The best time to install solar in Mallorca is decided less by the weather than by three calendars: the grant windows, the installers' order books and the tax year. Right now that means: if you want a battery or an EV charger and you're a resident, install before FACTOR closes on 28 February 2027 (or before its budget runs out); if you're planning panels and can wait, be ready to apply the day FOTOPAR reopens, probably in late January 2027; and if you want the 2026 state tax deduction, the system must be finished and paid by 31 December 2026.
Weather: almost any month works
Mallorca's installers work year-round. Rain days are few, winter temperatures are mild, and a typical home installation takes one to three days on site. The paperwork takes longer than the installation whatever the month. The only weather constraint worth planning around is August heat on a flat roof, which some crews avoid in the afternoons.
Production starts the day the system is commissioned, so a system installed in November earns through the winter and is fully registered before the summer peak.
The grant calendar
FACTOR 2026-27 (batteries, EV chargers, community panels). Opened 9 July 2026, closes 28 February 2027 or when the €4.1 million budget is used up. First-come. If you're a resident and a battery is part of your plan, this is the window: 45% back on the battery, 70% on an EV charger. Installers apply as soon as the system is commissioned, so a December or January installation still makes it, but don't leave it to February.
FOTOPAR (household panels). Closed since 30 April 2026. The last two calls opened on 26 January; a 2027 call is likely but not announced. Households can't apply for a system that's already installed, so residents planning panels face a choice: install now and take the 10% state deduction, or wait for the window and apply for up to €3,000. Having quotes in hand means you can apply on day one, when the budget is fresh. Sign up for the alert on the subsidy checker.
Municipal rebates. Some towns accept IBI rebate applications only in a yearly window, often early in the year, for installations registered the year before. Check the town page and the ordinance, and register the system promptly after installation.
The tax calendar
- The new 10% state deduction covers installations completed and paid between 1 January and 31 December 2026. Whether it's extended into 2027 isn't known as of October 2026. If it matters to you, finish and pay in 2026, with the electrical certificate dated accordingly.
- The 40% efficiency deduction was extended to works paid by 31 December 2026, with the energy certificate issued before 1 January 2027. It needs a certificate before the works too, so plan it in.
- The Balearic 50% deduction is confirmed for the 2025 tax year; continuation for 2026 depends on the Balearic budget law, usually passed in December.
Grants reduce the base of the deductions. Pay by transfer or card.
Installer lead times
Order books fill from March to July, when every villa owner wants the system running before the guests arrive. In spring expect four to eight weeks from signing to installation; in autumn and winter, two to four, and installers have more time for a careful design. For a summer-ready villa system, sign by February.
Equipment prices
Panel and battery prices have fallen for three years in a row and were flat to slightly down through 2026. Waiting a year for cheaper equipment rarely beats a year of savings and an open grant window. Prices do move with grant announcements: expect busier installers and firmer prices in the weeks after FOTOPAR opens.
A month-by-month plan
| When | Do |
|---|---|
| October to November | Run the solar calculator, get three quotes, decide on battery and EV charger. Residents: sign for a battery system to install before year-end and claim FACTOR plus the 2026 state deduction. |
| December | Installations finishing now claim the 2026 deduction. Register the system promptly. Watch the Balearic budget law for the 50% deduction. |
| January | Likely FOTOPAR opening in the last week. Residents planning panels apply on day one with quotes in hand. Apply for municipal IBI rebates where the window is January to March. |
| February | FACTOR closes on the 28th. Last chance for the battery grant, budget permitting. Sign now for a villa system by June. |
| March to May | Peak installation season. Expect longer lead times. Spring and autumn are when a pool heat pump on solar pays. |
| June to August | Systems run at full output. Installations continue; book early. |
| September | Quieter installers, good time for off-grid and finca projects before winter. |
Second homes and owners abroad
Plan installations around your visits or your caretaker's availability, and around the season you use the house. A system commissioned in April is registered and monitored by the time the summer starts. See Solar for Non-Resident Owners in Mallorca.
The short version
Resident with a battery in mind: install in the next few months, before FACTOR closes. Resident planning panels only: get quotes now, apply to FOTOPAR the day it opens. Non-resident: install whenever suits your visits; autumn and winter give you better attention and a system ready for summer. In every case, the paperwork takes longer than the panels, so start it early.
Common questions
Is there a bad time of year to install?
Not really. Installers are busiest from March to July; autumn and winter often mean shorter lead times and more attention.
Should I wait for FOTOPAR to reopen?
If you're a resident planning panels and can wait a few months, applying in the window can be worth up to €3,000. Get quotes now so you're ready to apply the day it opens.
